DOVER, Del. (AP) - Delaware's health and social services secretary is updating a state panel on the federal health care reform effort in Delaware.
Secretary Rita Landgraf was scheduled to brief the Delaware Health Care Commission on Thursday about enrollment in the state's new health insurance exchange.
Federal officials revealed Wednesday that only 97 people have enrolled in Delaware's exchange, less than one-third of one percent of the 35,000 people that state officials hope will sign up for insurance under the Affordable Care Act. Fewer than 3,500 Delawareans, about 10 percent of the target goal, have applied for coverage in the exchange, and more than a third of those appear to be eligible for Medicaid coverage instead.
Landgraf nevertheless said the numbers show the high level of interest in obtaining health insurance.
