Northbeach Bar in Dewey Beach Has Seen Controversey

Northbeach facebook

The entry policies of the Northbeach bar in Dewey Beach are being questioned after 32 year old Michael Brown claimed that he and other African American males were denied entry one evening.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that a video posted on Facebook shows some white patrons were also denied that night.

Eventually, Brown was allowed in.

Alex Pires who owns the bar said he was there that night and gave instructions to his doormen to try to keep an even ratio between men and women patrons.

Pires is also a lawyer who represented black farmers in a class-action racial discrimination lawsuit.

Northbeach has been criticized by police saying in June that its Tuesday night cheap-beer promotions attracted too large of crowds.

Since an incident in June in which two police officers found themselves surrounded by a disorderly crowd Sgt. Cliff Dempsey said there have been fewer complaints.
