No Prayer at School Events, Says Cape Henlopen Superintendent

cape henlopen school district

All teachers and coaches in the Cape Henlopen School District have been reminded that prayer is not allow during school events  including sporting events.

The warning by Superintendent Bob Fulton comes after the district was warned by the Freedom From Religion Foundation that the practice of football coach Bill Collick of praying with his team before the games was a violation of the constitution.

But school board member Sandi Minard said she was disappointed by the superintendent’s letter telling WBOC that the community has overwhelmingly supported Coach Collick.

The foundation’s attorney Elizabeth Cavell told the television station that it was not legal or appropriate -- a view, she added, that is backed up by legal precedent.
