No Gun Found on Suspect in Somerset County Police Shooting

Maryland Police say the man fatally shot by two state troopers in Somerset County was not found to have a weapon.

Forty-nine year old Terry Diaz of Princess Anne was shot in the head following a chase with state police and County Deputies on Wednesday evening along Route 13.

Trooper Ryan Watkins and Trooper 1st Class Carl Tyler have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

Police spokesman Greg Shipley told the Salisbury Daily Times – in his words – we don’t have all the answers yet.

Police were called to the Manokin Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center about a suspicious person and vehicle.

Diaz had no connection to the nursing home.

A pursuit ensued ending when Diaz got his car stuck in the mud on a median strip on Route 13.

Police say both troopers fired their weapons as they approached the car.
