Newcomers Impact Sixth District Senate Seat in Delaware

State of Delaware

The explosion in the come-here population could be the key to who wins the 6th state Senate seat in Delaware.

The district covers the coastal resorts like Dewey Beach, Rehoboth Beach and Lewes as well as inland towns like Milton and Harbeson.

A Wilmington News Journal analysis finds that voters are far different than the rest of Sussex County.

It has more retires, fewer farmers and mostly wealthier households.

The paper also says that the top concerns of residents are keeping taxes low quality medical care for the elderly and ensuring their children can find jobs without moving again.

Vying for the votes on the Republican side in the September 11th primary are Ernie Lopez who has lived in the district for six years and Glen Urquhart, a former county GOP chair.

On the Democratic side Andy Staton, a real estate agent who moved to the area 9 years ago, has the backing of top Democrats including Governor Jack Markell.

Other Democratic candidates include former Dewey beach mayor and police commissioner Bob Frederick…as well as Michael Miller a small business owner.
