DOVER, Del. (AP) - Delaware education officials are unveiling a new accountability system to strengthen state oversight of charter schools.

Officials say new the charter school framework to be discussed Thursday incorporates several suggestions in report published last year by National Association of Charter School Authorizers.

The new charter school rules were adopted by the state Board of Education this summer and go into effect next year.

Gov. Jack Markell says the new framework will set academic, fiscal and governance standards by which all state-authorized charter schools will be evaluated.

State officials also are finalizing a new charter school application that goes into effect this year and a template for performance agreements for existing charter schools.
