New OC Parking Meters Sparks Petition Drive

Don Rush

There is a petition drive underway by residents and property owners in Ocean City to rollback a new set of parking meters that have been installed on the resort’s streets.

Local resident Mac Balkcom told the Salisbury Daily Times that he had easily collected 41 signatures this weekend noting that no one said no.

Balkcom is a board member of the 146th Street Ocean Place condo building where there is metered parking next to his home which for years that been used for residents and visitors.

He spoke to the Ocean City Taxpayers for Social Justice as the group brainstormed last week at a local restaurant owned by Town Council member Joe Hall.

Earlier this year the Council voted to install metered parking on some street where it had been free.

Those include spots on Philadelphia Avenue between North Division and First streets as well as on 49th, 131st and 146st streets.
