WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden is making a new push to prevent people thought to be dangerous from acquiring guns.
Biden will announce new gun-control legislation at a news conference Monday afternoon.
He'll be joined by lawmakers, police and physicians. The secretary of Delaware's Department of Health and Social Services will also attend. Biden's office says the measure would make it easier for the state to keep firearms out of the hands of dangerous individuals, including the mentally ill.
The Legislature has already approved a bill expanding criminal background checks on gun purchases to include most transactions between private sellers and buyers. Democratic Gov. Jack Markell is also pushing for bans on the sale of high-capacity magazines and military-style assault-type weapons and new restrictions on guns near schools.
