DOVER, Del. (AP) - Delaware's new education secretary is getting ready to settle into his job.
Mark Murphy was to be sworn in Friday morning in Dover by Gov. Jack Markell as the new head of the state Department of Education.
Murphy is a former teacher, principal and executive director of the Vision Network, a coalition of 26 public schools serving as models for implementing a comprehensive reform plan for Delaware's education system known as Vision 2015.
In his work with the Vision Network, Murphy has helped to implement Delaware's Race to the Top initiatives, enhance school leadership development and improve student achievement.
Murphy succeeds Lillian Lowery, who has been tapped as Maryland's next state superintendent of schools.
