New Climate Change Order's Uncertain Impact on Worcester County

SNOW HILL, Md. (AP) - Worcester County's planning director says it's too soon to say how a new climate change executive order will affect the county.

Worcester County planning director Ed Tudor says it certainly can't hurt, adding the state is already facing rising sea levels and sinking ground. Tudor told The Daily Times of Salisburysome projects could be affected, but he was waiting to see a Department of Natural Resources report called for in the order.

Gov. Martin O'Malley issued the order last month, directing state agencies to consider coastal flooding and sea level rise while designing capital budget projects. The state is also requiring new and rebuilt state structures to be at least two feet above the 100-year flood level. And it calls for updated sea level rise projections.
