New Castle County Official Defends Himself in Brawl Controversy

facebook.com

A recent fist fight at a Wilmington restaurant has New Castle County Chief Administrative Officer David Grimaldi speaking out about the brawl, saying that the other man repeatedly used racial slurs about African Americans hired by County Executive Tom Gordon’s administration.

The Wilmington News Journal reported that Grimaldi repeated his assertion that Carl Arcaro was the aggressor in the late-night fight on April 13th at the Pastabilities restaurant.

Grimaldi told the paper that Arcaro said “Horrible things”, repeatedly using racial slurs.

He said he eventually told Arcaro to shut up.

The paper reports that Arcaro claimed in an interview last week that the fight began after a conversation about the Mafia and that it was Grimaldi who threw first punch.

Yesterday, Arcaro denied Grimaldi’s version of events saying there was no argument about race.

In the aftermath of the altercation that day, a police report says that, County Police Chief Elmer Setting drove to the scene and eventually took Grimaldi to get medical treatment.

Meanwhile, Wilmington Council member Mike Brown has called for an investigation of the incident saying that he was troubled with Setting coming to the scene that was in the jurisdiction of the city police department.

Grimaldi and Arcaro both say that the police report supports their version of what happened.
