New Castle County Executive Tom Gordon: No Wrongdoing

official website

DOVER, Del. (AP) - New Castle County Executive Tom Gordon is denying wrongdoing or cover-up regarding a contract employee accused of using confidential public housing records to solicit votes for the employee's wife, a state senator and Democratic candidate for lieutenant governor.

Gordon issued a statement Wednesday calling the allegations against himself and housing inspector Dana Long false and politically motivated.

Excerpts of a leaked telephone conversation last year between Gordon and his former chief administrative officer, David Grimaldi, suggest that Gordon did not want Long fired because he was married to Sen. Bethany Hall Long, whom Gordon considered an important political ally in Dover.

Gordon said Wednesday that initial information provided to Grimaldi that Long had admitted the alleged conduct turned out to be inaccurate.

Long has also denied the allegations.
