Nearly 70 Ponies Auctioned In Chincoteague

Unofficially, 67 foals were sold at yesterday’s auction in Chincoteague as part of the 87th annual Pony Auction.

The average price was just over $13-hundred each and brought the Auction brought in $92-thousand for the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company.

The fire company uses the money to purchase firefighting equipment and for veterinary costs in taking care of the ponies.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that during the parade for the bidders several of the fillies and colts kicked up some clouds of dirt as they reared back on the Saltwater Cowboys.

The fire company also auctioned off original prints of the Chincoteague ponies.
