Nearly $20 Million More for Restoration at Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge

USFWS.gov

Another $19.8 million will be coming to the Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge for restoration in the wake of the storm-damage done to the beach and marsh south of Fowler Beach Road.

That’s in addition to $20 million set aside for beach and dune restoration after the refuge shore line was breached during Hurricane Sandy.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that a detailed plan for restoration will be taken up at a public forum as early as next week.

Al Rizzo, Coastal Delaware National Wildlife Refuge Complex Project leader told the paper that the first phase of the project will be begin with beach restoration to resist the potential damage from storms.

That will be followed by marsh restoration that will add storm resilience.

It’s hoped the project will allow the coastline to keep pace with sea level rise.
