The Wicomico County Branch of the NAACP has blasted Sheriff Mike Lewis for recent remarks holding President Barak Obama responsible for recent police across the county.

NAACP Branch president Mary Ashanti told the Salisbury Daily Times that, “This kind of statement is inflammatory and reckless.”

Lewis’ direct quote from the paper reads as follows: “I’m hold Barack Hussein Obama responsible for what’s going on in the country.”

Lewis also criticized Obama’s sympathy for the Black Lives Matter movement which he said had caused a backlash against police.

When contacted by the Daily Times Lewis was unapologetic criticizing Ashanti charging she was trying to divide law enforcement from the African American community.

The NAACP leader said she was not going to attend a meeting of community leaders at a gathering called “Stand United” because Lewis would be in attendance.
