Mourners Pay Respects to Richard Collins

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) - Mourners holding flowers have paid their respects at the site where a student was fatally stabbed days before his graduation.

Hundreds gathered Wednesday at the University of Maryland, College Park's chapel garden to honor Richard Collins III, who was killed Saturday on the campus.

Mourners placed red and white flowers in the center of a circle in the garden. Many walked the few blocks to the bus shelter where Collins was stabbed.

Collins was scheduled to graduate from Bowie State University on Tuesday. His family accepted his degree at the commencement ceremony.

Police say Collins was attacked by Sean Urbanski while visiting the University of Maryland. The black student's slaying is being investigated by the FBI as a possible hate crime.

Urbanski, who is white, is charged with murder.
