More Time for Public to Weigh In on Future of Delaware Beaches

DOVER, Del. (AP) - State environmental officials are extending the public comment period for proposed amendments to regulations governing the protection and use of Delaware's beaches.

The public comment period was to have ended Sunday but has been extended through Dec. 7.

Officials with the Division of Watershed Stewardship's Shoreline & Waterway Management Section say the decision to extend the comment period was made in response to requests from the public.

Officials say comments may be emailed or submitted through regular mail to hearing officer Lisa Vest.

The proposed rule change would incorporate recent legislative changes to Delaware's existing Beach Preservation Act. Officials also want to incorporate watershed stewardship policies and construction standards into existing beach regulations, which will result in less damage to structures while offering additional protection for dunes and beaches.
