More Provisional Ballots to Count in Annapolis Mayoral Race

Mike Pantelides campaign website

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - After a count of absentee ballots, Republican challenger Mike Pantelides has kept a narrow lead in the Annapolis mayoral race. But officials must still count provisional ballots.

The Capitalreports that the Board of Canvassers counted 270 absentee ballots early Friday, cutting Pantelides' lead to 50 votes over Democratic incumbent Mayor Josh Cohen, 3,897 to 3,847. The counts came after a more than 17-hour session in which the board reviewed absentee ballots and heard challenges.

Pantelides led by 84 votes on Election Day, but that lead was cut to 82 votes after a report of a misreported vote and a count of votes from a broken voting machine.

After the count, the board recessed until noon Friday, when members will consider more than 100 provisional ballots.
