More Officers Resign from Vaughn Correctional Center

Delaware Correctional Officer Badge

More correctional officers have quit their posts at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in the aftermath of an inmate uprising in which one guard was killed.

The additional handful of officers leaving the institution now puts the overall figure for the department to at least 30, according to Jayme Gravell, a prison system spokesperson.

WBOC reports that Gravell said she could not reveal if this was related to the uprising in which officer Steven Floyd died.

The aftermath has seen the prison warden David Pierce put on administrative leaves…and the security superintendent Major Jeff Carrothers reassigned.

Geoff Klopp president of the Correctional Officers Association told the television station that the departures will make the situation even more difficult when searching cells for weapons.
