ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Gov.-elect Larry Hogan has named Pete Rahn to be the head of the Maryland Department of Transportation.

Hogan, a Republican, made the announcement on Tuesday. He also announced several other senior-level appointments to his administration.

Rahn has led transportation departments in New Mexico and Missouri.

Road Tolls

Hogan also says he wants to take a look at lower road lolls in Maryland.

The toll rates are decided by the Maryland Transportation Authority.

He said that he would probably review them after the 90 day legislative session which begins today.

Toll rates rose during Governor Martin O’Malley’s administration.

Hogan emphasized cutting taxes fees and tolls during his gubernatorial campaign.

Other Appointments

Hogan also announced that Keiffer Mitchell will be a special adviser with a focus on growing charter schools in Maryland. Mitchell, a Democrat, has represented Baltimore in the House of Delegates since 2011. He lost in last year's primary after his legislative district was reconfigured to one seat instead of three in redistricting.

Hogan also announced that state Sen. Chris Shank will be director of the Governor's Office of Crime Control and Prevention.

Hogan, a Republican, will be inaugurated next week in Annapolis.
