Miss Delaware Speaks Out Against Teen Dating Violence

DOVER, Del. (AP) - The new Miss Delaware is taking aim at teen dating violence.

Twenty-four-year-old Amanda Longacre, of Bear, was crowned Saturday night at Dover Downs in Dover. She will compete in the Miss America pageant in September.

Longacre is a University of Delaware graduate with a focus on women's studies and domestic violence prevention.

She says teenagers historically haven't been the focus of domestic violence prevention efforts, but that's changing. Longacre says prevention strategies should address relationships that are forming - and the teenagers who are forming them.

Longacre is pursuing a master's degree in social work at the University of Pennsylvania.
