Minimum Wage Hike in Delaware Draws Opposition from Business

dssc.com

A proposal to hike the minimum wage in Delaware from $7.25 an hour to $8.75 by 2014 and tying it the rate of inflation has drawn sharp opposition from the state Chamber of the Commerce and business groups.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that lobbyists for Wal-Mart, Verizon and other businesses have registered interest in a measure authored by Wilmington Democratic state Senator Robert Marshall.

Governor Jack Markell has not said yet whether he would support the measure.

President Obama has called for increasing the federal minimum wage to $9 an hour.
