Mikulksi: Put Tubman on Ten Dollar Bill

historical photograph

Maryland’s senior Senator Barbara Mikulski wants to put the image of Harriet Tubman on the ten dollar bill.

The Maryland Democrat along with New Hampshire’s Jeanne Shaheen has introduced a measure that would do just that.

Mikulski said that it would honor the trailblazing role of women in American history.

Tubman was born in Dorchester County and escaped slavery in 1849 and then returned to the Eastern Shore to lead others slaves to freedom.

The Obama administration is planning on putting a woman on the ten dollar bill that has the nation’s first treasury secretary Alexander Hamilton.

The Treasury Department says Hamilton’s image could still appear on some of the bills.
