Middletown Set to Take Up Budget with No Tax Increases

The Middletown City Council is set to consider its $38.5 million budget tonight that would include pay hikes for staff but no increase in taxes or utility rates.

The spending plan calls for a 2.6 percent increase in overall spending including a 5 percent pay hike for police.

That’s on top of the 5 percent pay increase for the 29 member department in last year’s fiscal budget.

The civilian staff picked up a 1 percent pay increase after receiving a 2 percent hike last year.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that there are no new positions in the budget leaving the fulltime staff at 153.
