Former Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele is returning to the state he once presided over as Lt. Governor.
He will be delivering the Commencement Speech tomorrow at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
Steele was the first African American to be elected statewide in Maryland and subsequently made a failed senate bid.
During his time in the administration of Governor Bob Ehrlich he worked to reform the state’s Minority Business Enterprise program and championed charter schools in the state.
He also sought to develop a working relationship between government and faith-based organizations.
