Medical Marijuana to Get Final Vote by MD Panel

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - A Maryland panel considering regulations for medical marijuana may finally vote on them.

A commission meeting is scheduled for Thursday in Annapolis.

The panel delayed voting on regulations late last month to take a second look at fees for marijuana growers, dispensers and patients, which critics have said are too high.

The commission also has added marijuana extracts to the regulations, so patients could ingest the drug without smoking.

The effort to make medical marijuana available to the sick has had a long and difficult road in Maryland. The law that stalled in the 2013 required academic medical centers to run medical marijuana programs, but none stepped forward. A new law approved this year allows certified doctors to recommend marijuana for patients with debilitating, chronic and severe illnesses.
