Media Objects to Sealing Courtroom in Matusiewicz Trial

state.delaware.gov

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - The judge in a federal cyberstalking trial stemming from a fatal shooting at a Delaware courthouse is set to hear arguments over media objections to sealing the courtroom during testimony by the gunman's granddaughter.

Former optometrist David Matusiewicz; his mother, Lenore Matusiewicz; and his sister, Amy Gonzalez, are accused of conspiracy and cyberstalking of David's ex-wife, Christine Belford.

David's father, Thomas, killed Belford and a friend at the courthouse in 2013, then killed himself. The shooting followed a bitter custody battle during which David and his mother kidnapped his three daughters and took them to Central America.

Prosecutors say the stalking campaign against Belford centered on unsubstantiated accusations that she sexually abused a relative who's now 13. Prosecutors want to seal the courtroom when the girl testifies next week.
