ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Maryland's Senate president is bracing his colleagues for a difficult debate over raising the state's minimum wage.
Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller said Thursday it will be difficult to find a solution to address economic differences in various parts of the state. He says he needs people to be open to compromise.
Miller, D-Calvert, is predicting there will be a minimum wage increase. However, he says finding the right number is going to be very difficult. That's because Prince George's and Montgomery counties already have decided to raise the wage to $11.50 by 2017.
Gov. Martin O'Malley has called for increasing the minimum wage to $10.10 by 2016. The state's current wage is $7.25 an hour.
