ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - The House of Delegates is scheduled to take up a transportation funding measure.

The House is set to take up amendments on Wednesday to the bill, which would raise hundreds of millions of dollars annually in new revenue for roads, bridges and mass transit.

A House committee already has made changes to Gov. Martin O'Malley's proposal to phase in a sales tax on gasoline over a longer period of time.

The plan, as changed by the House Ways and Means Committee, would apply a 1 percent sales tax at the wholesale level on July 1, instead of 2 percent under O'Malley's plan.

The sales tax would increase to 2 percent on Jan. 1, 2015, instead of 4 percent under the governor's initial plan.
