MD Governor: Too Early to Judge GOP Health Care Bill

WASHINGTON (AP) - Maryland Governor Larry Hogan says the health care plan proposed by House Republicans in Congress still has a long way to go.

He said it's too soon to say how the legislation will affect Maryland residents.

The Republican governor said states that expanded Medicaid need to be considered as lawmakers work on the legislation.

Hogan said that it was important that the federal government get the input from governors around the country to come up with a compromise that fixes the problems in the health care system while protecting as many people as possible.

Meanwhile, Maryland’s Democratic Senator Ben Cardin who is critical of the Republican replacement efforts says that the bill would leave nearly 290-thousand residents currently covered by the Medicaid expansion with coverage.

He also says there would be fewer benefits and higher costs.
