MD Casino Revenue UP

Hollywood Casino Website

Overall the state's three casinos collectively had a record month in July as the Maryland legislature is holding a special session to add table games and a sixth casino in Prince Georges County.

The Maryland Lottery announced yesterday that Perryville, Maryland Live and the Casino at Ocean Downs in Worcester County took in just over $48 million last month.

The Baltimore Sun reports that Maryland Live in Anne Arundel County generated $35.4 million with 37-hundred slots and expects another 1-thousand by mid-September.

Ocean Downs in Worcester County turned in $5.7 million or a 7.6 percent increase last month.

Meanwhile, the Hollywood Casino in Perryville wants to return around a 3rd of its slot machines to the state after seeing its revenue decline by $3.3 million.

Penn National Gaming Inc., which operates the casino, is prepared to unconditionally return between 400 and 500 machines to the State without any expectation of a licensee fee refund or any right to reclaim those machines.

The Cecil County casino's business has softened since the June opening of Maryland Live Casino at Arundel Mills mall.

Bill Hayles, general manager for Hollywood Casino, says the company had always expected there would be some adjustment in the number of machines at the casino after the opening of the Anne Arundel casino.

But, he said they expected cutting back by 100, not 400 or more.
