ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Maryland Attorney Doug Gansler has paid a speeding ticket, amid highly publicized reports about how Maryland State Police say he directed them to drive him and his own use of a state vehicle.
Gansler, who is seeking the Democratic nomination for governor, released a statement from his office Tuesday announcing he paid the ticket.
The attorney general says apparently his office received a photo-camera ticket from the District of Columbia.
Gansler says that while determining who was driving the vehicle at the time, the ticket was inadvertently not paid. He says he went ahead and paid it Tuesday, even though he says it's still unclear who was driving.
State police memos in 2011 describe Gansler directing troopers to bypass traffic jams by driving on the shoulder and presenting safety concerns.
