Mayor Ireton to Run for City Council

biopic

Mayor Jim Ireton will not be leaving Salisbury politics quite yet.

He plans to return to the City Council filing as a candidate in District 4 that covers the downtown area as well as Newtown.

Ireton was elected to his job in 2009 succeeding Mayor Barrie  Tilghman.

Ireton served on the council in the late 1990’s.

The mayor points to accomplishments including hiring the city’s first female police chief and the development of the downtown area.

Council member Shanie Shields said that Ireton had been a pro-neighborhood mayor.

Earlier this year Council President Jake Day, a close ally of Ireton, announced his candidacy for Mayor.
