BALTIMORE (AP) - The University System of Maryland is considering adding a master's degree in nursing at Frostburg State University to address a shortage of nursing educators.
A Board of Regents committee has recommended approval by the full board at a meeting Friday in Baltimore. The program would still require approval by the Maryland Higher Education Commission and the Maryland Board of Nursing.
Frostburg State currently offers a nursing bachelor's degree. The new program would add a master's degree focused on either education or administration.
The school says the education track would address a statewide and national shortage of nursing faculty. Although four other Maryland universities offer such a degree, only Frostburg State would have an online option. The school says that would make it attractive to working nurses with scheduling conflicts.
