A third Bay bridge took another step today.

The Maryland Senate has given the okay to fund a study of another span across the waters.

State Senator Jim Mathias told the Salisbury Daily Times that the vote was 40-to-4.

The measure would fund an environmental impact study and require the Maryland Transportation Authority to put aside specific money for it.

The vote comes after a study by the agency warned that the Bay Bridge could see backups of 14 miles if it is not widened by 2040.

The measure now goes to the House of Delegates.
