Maryland Lowers Cost of Falconry

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - The Maryland Department of Natural Resources is lowering the cost of falconry.

The agency announced May 23 it has reduced the cost of an annual falconry permit from $25 to $10. The permit is required for hunting wildlife with a trained raptor.

The agency also reduced from $25 to $10 the fee for a resident permit to capture a peregrine falcon for falconry purposes. In 2015, the agency made 20 such licenses available but allowed just two birds to be taken during a 30-day season last fall.

The department says it has made similar reductions in permit fees for riding off-road vehicles on state land; and for possessing, breeding, selling, trading or bartering reptiles and amphibians.

The agency also announced a half-price state park entrance fee for military veterans.
