CLAYMONT, Del. (AP) - Delaware State Police are identifying a Pennsylvania man fatally shot by a trooper responding to a shop's alarm.
Police announced late Sunday that 35-year-old Michael McKillop of Philadelphia died after the shooting outside a Rite Aid on Naamans Road in Claymont.
The trooper responding to the alarm early Sunday at the Rite Aid saw a car behind the business and a man leaving the rear door. Police say the man tried to flee with the trooper at his open driver's side door and dragged the trooper while driving away. The trooper fired his weapon, striking the man.
The trooper provided first aid, and the man was flown to a hospital where police say he was pronounced dead.
Police say the trooper, a 16-year veteran, suffered lacerations and bruises.
