Losing Accomack County Deputies Due to Low Pay

official photo

Money is the problem.

That’s the word from Accomack County Sheriff Todd Godwin whose department has lost 19 deputies over the last two years.

Godwin has asked the Board of Supervisors to okay pay hikes ranging from $3-thousand to $6-thousand beginning December 1st.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports the sheriff, showing the board a photograph of smiling deputies, told them that his aim was to ensure that next year’s photo would show the same deputies.

The request would cost around $197-thousand in next year’s budget.
