Layoffs at Lorch Microwave

Lorch Microwave

Lorch Microwave is laying off ten of its 100 workers in the Salisbury area.

The company said it is now asking for workers to voluntarily step forward.

It said that the layoffs come as a result of a weak order book and an effort to control costs.

Lorch moved from Florida to Salisbury in 1994 and was purchased by the London based Smiths Group in 2006.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that the layoffs have hit the city at a time when Labinal Power Systems announced it was shutting down its operations and moving them to Texas.

They make wiring for the defense and aerospace industries.
