DOVER, Del. (AP) - A Lewes resident who was injured while working at Delaware's popular Punkin Chunkin is suing festival organizers.
A complaint filed last week says Daniel Fair, who volunteered as a spotter at the 2011 festival, suffered spinal fractures after he was ejected from an all-terrain vehicle that hit a depression in the ground, then landed on top of him.
Fair is suing the Punkin Chunkin Association for negligence related to training and supervising spotters, safety measures, and conditions of the Punkin Chunkin field at Wheatley Farms in Bridgeville.
John Huber, president of the Punkin Chunkin Association, declined to comment on the lawsuit Thursday.
This year's edition of Punkin Chunkin, in which teams compete with a variety of homemade contraptions to see who can fling a pumpkin the farthest, begins Friday.
