Law in Delaware To Improve Job Opportunities for People with Disabilities

Delaware Gov. Jack Markell is signing a bill aimed at improving employment opportunities for the disabled in the state.

The measure becomes law today and requires state agencies that provide services to people with disabilities to consider, as a first option, competitive employment for the disabled.

But officials say it does not require an employer to give preference to hiring persons with disabilities.

State agencies will be required to coordinate and collaborate in efforts to comply with the law which establishes an oversight commission as part of the state Council for Persons with Disabilities.
