UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) - Prince George's County officials are scheduled to vote on the building plan for a $925 million casino near the nation's capital.
The county's district council is meeting in Upper Marlboro to consider the site plan from MGM, which wants to build the casino and resort at National Harbor.
The vote by the nine-member panel is considered the last main hurdle to clear before construction can begin.
The casino proposal won the support of Maryland voters in a 2012 ballot question. It also has the support of Prince George's County Executive Rushern Baker.
It could open as soon as July 2016 if the plan receives the necessary approval. The casino would be home to 3,600 slot machines and 140 table games.
