ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Dr. John LaFerla is formally filing his candidacy for the Democratic primary next year to run in Maryland's 1st District congressional race.

LaFerla says he plans to file in Annapolis on Wednesday.

LaFerla barely lost the last primary for the 1st District to Wendy Rosen, who dropped out abruptly in 2012 after the state Democratic Party found out she had voted in Maryland and Florida in 2006 and 2008.

LaFerla ended up being endorsed to take on Republican Rep. Andy Harris. However, LaFerla had to run as a write-in candidate, because Rosen's name could not be taken off the ballot.

Harris won re-election with 63 percent of the vote.
