Jim Ireton made it official kicking off his campaign for Maryland’s First Congressional District in Crisfield this morning.

Fresh off his victory for the Salisbury City election after concluding two terms as the city’s Mayor the Democrat emphasized what he described as the incumbent’s failure to come to the aid of local governments on the Eastern Shore.

"We need a congressman who will go to Washington to make a difference not a point," he declared.

Mayor Kim Lawson and former mayor P.J Purnell were there to endorse his candidacy both blasting Republican Congressman Andy Harris for not being more available in helping out their community after it was hit by Hurricane Sandy.

Harris voted against the Sandy relief package.

Ireton charged, "His (Harris) answer to us is no, no, no, no, no. So, I'm right here in Crisfield right now because Andy Harris wasn't."

But, the First Congressional District has become more conservative and was drawn by Democrats that make it the sole Republican district in the state.
