WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - Corrections officials say an inmate at the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington has died.

The Department of Correction says 41-year-old Michael Piunti died Thursday morning at St. Francis Hospital. Officials say Delaware State Police are investigating Piunti's death as an apparent suicide.

Piunti arrived at the jail on Sept. 1. Officials say he was being held in default of bail on charges of forgery and other offenses.

Piunti's body has been turned over to the Medical Examiner's Office.
