Improvement in Delaware Overweight Statistics

Don Rush

The battle against weight gain appears to be making some headway in Delaware.

A Nemours Health and Prevention Services study says that while the number of children found to be overweight remained unchanged over the years there has been some progress based on race and gender.

The survey released today said that the prevalence overweight conditions and obesity has declined among African American males and white females between the ages of 2 and 17.

But obesity rates among white males of the same age has gone up while Hispanic children were found to have the highest prevalence of overweight conditions and obesity among all ethnic groups.

Finally, the study found that parents say that their children are consuming more vegetables, get more physical activity and drink less sugar-sweetened beverages.

But in this age of social media and computer games children are spending more time in front of the video screen.
