Impact of Shootings in Afghanistan

The impact of the shooting of 16 Afghan civilians allegedly by a US soldier is still sending shock waves through the US presence, already falling into disfavor with the American people.

During a trip to Afghanistan, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said the shootings would not deter securing the country before the 2014 NATO withdrawal date.

Kevin Maurer is co-author of " No Way Out: A Story of Valor in the Mountains of Afghanistan" about a group of Special Forces who successfully disengaged from an ambush in 2008.

Speaking to Delmarva Public Radio's Don Rush, Maurer says US efforts could be undermined if President Hamid Karzai is successful in getting American forces to withdraw from the villages.

Don Rush is the News Director and Senior Producer of News and Public Affairs at Delmarva Public Media. An award-winning journalist, Don reports major local issues of the day, from sea level rise, to urban development, to the changing demographics of Delmarva.
