I-95 Bridge Work About Completed, Lanes Open Soon

Don Rush

Repair of the I-95 bridge near Christiana moved much faster than expected with 24 hour construction crews working into November.

During the six weeks of lane closures over Delaware Route 1 they laid some 30-thousand pounds of precast concrete slabs brought in from Pennsylvania.

This stands in contrast to the traditional pouring of concrete site.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that work is expected to be completed this week ending the lane closures that have given motorist such a headache.

The paper reports that the cost of using the unconventional slabs for the project was probably more than the traditional method.

The project was bid out at $4.7 million but could come in around $200-thousand above that figure.
