Hot Debate In Wilmington's Mayoral Race

It was a hot debate yesterday among the Democratic contenders for Mayor of Wilmington.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that the sharpest exchange came over the police department.

During the two hour debate State Representative Dennis Williams called for get tough measures by the city police to curb recent violence.

But William Montgomery the former chief of staff for the current Mayor James Baker shot back questioning the value of Williams’ police experience which he noted “came before cell phones”.

Williams shot back, “You never wore the uniform.”

And that was followed up with Montgomery calling on Williams to open up his record as a police officer.

Williams refused saying he has a 99 percent clearance rate for his cases.
