Homeless Man Arrested in Two Attempted Abductions

Newark Police Mugshot

NEWARK, Del. (AP) - Police in Newark have arrested a homeless man they say attempted to abduct two women over the Fourth of July weekend.

Newark Police Department spokesman Bill Hargrove tells local news outlets that police arrested 35-year-old Joseph Rudge on Sunday on charges of attempted kidnapping, attempted carjacking, attempted theft, failure to re-register as a sex offender and other related offenses.

Police say Rudge attempted to abduct two women on July 3 and July 4 at two separate apartment complexes. Officials say the two women fought him off and managed to run away.

Police arrested Rudge after receiving tips on his whereabouts.

He was booked at the Howard R. Young Correctional Institute in lieu of $48,700 secured bond. It's unclear if he has an attorney.
